Ashford, one of the fastest growing towns in England, home to Ashford International station where you can get to London in under 40 minutes and some of Europe’s most famous cities in just a few hours. Ashford is a town that combines a traditional market town with the vibrancy of a modern gateway, and home of course, to KAE.
Opened in 2011 and just a short walk away from Ashford International, Ashford Gateway Plus is one of our more modern centres, and really serves as the hub of the town. It is home to not only Kent Adult Education but also Ashford Library, a nursery, Citizens Advice Bureau, deaf services, a Gurkha welfare advice centre and our sister brand Skills Plus, amongst others. Ashford Library is conveniently located in the same building, with students granted free wi-fi and access to computers, meaning you can kill some time or get some research in before or after your course with us at no extra cost!
Another place to spend time before or after your course is at the charity-run cafe, ‘Food with Friends’ on the second floor. The cafe is open Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm, Fridays 9am-4pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm, and sells hot and cold refreshments and locally sourced food. You won’t be left out if your course is in the evening however, an honesty trolley is left with centre staff to cater for evening students.
It is also a particularly environmentally friendly centre, with features including solar panels, an air source heat pump to generate energy, and a green roof for added insulation.
“"The Gateway is well equipped with seven classrooms on the second floor, including a spacious art studio which is located in the centre of the building and offers inspiring views "”
Courses at the Gateway
Despite being the home of so many different services, the Gateway has more than enough room for KAE. The centre is well equipped with seven classrooms on the second floor, including a fitness studio, an IT room and a spacious art studio which is located in the centre of the building and offers inspiring views of the amphitheatre, pier, fruit trees and fountains of the memorial gardens. No matter what time of year you find yourself looking out into the gardens, you will always be surrounded by new ideas.
Whether you’re looking for academic success or physical improvement, the Gateway has it covered with over 250 courses in the coming year. We have GCSE courses coming up in a number of subjects, whether it’s that qualification in maths or English that
you’ve been missing to help further your career, or a professional qualification in Psychology, you can gain it at the Gateway.
Only in Ashford
Health & Fitness is very popular in Ashford, with over 70 courses coming up including dance, yoga, pilates and massage. Yoga is so popular at Ashford in fact, that it is the only centre in Kent where you will find a range of vinyasa flow yoga courses, taught by tutor Sam Stone.
Vinyasa flow isn’t the only course that you will only find at the Gateway, other courses exclusive to Ashford are our literature discussion groups led by Francesca Garrett, classical guitar taught by Suzanne Kynaston, and our painting masterclass sessions.
