Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, where couples the world over show their love for each other. This is usually marked by the exchange of cards and gifts. It is also the day that gives romantics the perfect opportunity to tell that special person how much they are loved.

Ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts come in all shapes and sizes, some go for a card or a bunch of flowers, while others prefer a romantic meal or just spending some quality time together.

Some choose to showcase this all on social media, posting pictures of flowers, expensive gifts, surprise meals and romantic getaways. While others prefer celebrations that are more low key.

St. Valentine

Valentine’s Day dates back to the 5th century and is noted in the calendar as a ‘feast day’ to celebrate St. Valentine. The saint himself is said to have been a Roman priest, imprisoned for marrying Christian couples. He was also believed to have written the first ever Valentine’s card to his jailer’s daughter.

What you may not have known is that St. Valentine is also the Patron Saint of bee keepers, epilepsy and plague. However these are far less romantic than what he is most well-known for!
