With The Great British Bake Off now back on our screens, everyone seems to have gone baking crazy once again. Mary Berry may have departed but that does not appear to have dented the nation’s appetite, with millions tuning in every week to find out who is star baker and who is going home.

We too have got the baking bug, donning our aprons and getting into the kitchen to try our hands at making bread, pastry, tarts, cakes and other sweet and savoury treats. Unfortunately we are not quite on the same level as this year’s Bake Off crop so we’ve tried to find recipes that are not too difficult and that give the maximum results for the smallest effort. Here are some of our favourites from the ones we’ve come across this week.

Top five recipes of the week

  • Easy no bake strawberry cheesecake

This is really easy to make and tastes fantastic. You’ll need to give the base and the filling time to set though. How long will you be able to hold out before you just have to have a slice?

  • Classic coffee and walnut cake

You can’t go far wrong with this classic, rich sponge with a big, bold hit of coffee mixed with a subtle nuttiness and the texture from the walnuts… oh and then there’s the rich buttercream icing!

Recipe from Simon Rimmer

  • Chocolate chip cookies

Try this super easy cookie recipe and you’ll be hooked on these soft and deliciously chewy treats. These beauties bake in just 20 minutes… yum!

Recipe from Jamie Oliver

  • Quick and easy scones

We all love a good scone, but are you more Devon or Cornwall when it comes to the topping? This recipe is a piece of cake. Just add a dollop of jam and clotted cream, job done.

Recipe from Delia Smith

Sourdough bread

Crusty on the outside but soft on the inside, what more could you ask for. This great bread recipe is just the thing to try at the weekend… your toast will never be the same again.
